FINGLETON'S WHINE ISN'T SAKI

Back on August 11, 2013, Eamonn Fingleton of Forbes wrote those words in his claim that the Japanese never experienced a "lost decade." I responded to Fingleton's silliness in my article, LOST DECADES ARE BECOMING THE LOST QUARTER CENTURY WITH ABENOMICS.

In comments on the Forbes article, I wrote:

Eamonn Fingleton is Irish. So he comes loaded with a host of culturally-embedded mental issues. If you have interacted with enough Irish nationals, you would know what I mean.
Fingleton grew up in Ireland when Ireland was little better than a third world country. He spent his early adult years in England, in the 1970s, during the lowliest era of British socialism and at a time when the Brits were still heavily invested in efficient manufacturing that kept all of their unionized Brits employed regardless of cost.
So, big government socialism seems rooted in Fingleton’s mind. Fingleton must be enamored with the big government socialism of the Japanese.

Fingleton responded by writing an entire article derived from my observation that Fingleton is Irish. I stand by that. Most get shaped by their respective cultures — the codified laws and codes of conduct in which they grow up. It is unlikely that Fingleton is different than anyone else. Fingleton came of age during the socialist nadir of the British Isles.
