Sure, New York City, its environs and maybe greater New Orleans or greater Detroit have the attention of most because the body counts are high. But proportionally, rural Georgia counties have been hit worse.
The worst hit county is Randolph county, west of the city of Albany, Georgia. Randolph has a population of 6,833, but a death rate of 221 per 100,000. Compare that with hard hit New York City, which has a death rate of 175 per 100k. Other banged up counties include Terrell (8,611; 211 per 100k), Mitchell (22,192; 105 per 100k) and Early (10,247; 98 per 100k). Also hit hard is Dougherty county, the county that holds the city of Albany. With its population of 91,243, the death rate for Dougherty is 111 per 100k.
Early rings in equal to hard hit Nassau county New York on Long Island where 1,329 have died as of this writing.
As these counties ring Albany, Georgia and Dougherty county, something is there that facilitated the spread of the virus to the good people of these counties.
