THE 2018-19 NHL SEASON WILL BE HERE IN ONE WEEK. HERE IS A LOOK AT NHL FRANCHISES VALUATIONS BY FORBES MAGAZINE.

The people at Forbes Magazine place valuations on professional sports franchises. Back in November of 2017, Forbes produced their latest NHL valuations.

When I glanced at the numbers, something did not seem right to me. Forbes ranks franchises based upon a phantom estimated selling price.

Here at the True Dollar Journal, I based my ranking upon the amount of revenue needed for each dollar of operating income. For franchises with profits, the lower the dollar amount, the higher the valuation, since it takes fewer dollars to generate one dollar of operating income. For franchises with losses, the lower the loss per dollar of revenue, the better.

Based upon reported revenue, the folks at Forbes vastly overprices all NHL franchises. There are much better deals merely owning shares in various firms of that comprise the Dow Jones Industrial Average.
