Rape seems to be the fear of every woman who walks alone at night in a city. Surprisingly, rape seems to be a crime perpetrated in poorer cities and college / university towns. Springfield, Missouri, is home to Missouri State University (26,000 students). Salt Lake City is home to the University of Utah (32,900 students). Kalamazoo, Michigan is home to Western Michigan University (23,227 students).
Many of the cities that are nearer the top of the list are big college and university towns.
