In the work, Shapiro laments, which is typical of his worldview upbringing,
... most Americans ... get their news via Facebook and Youtube and Google and Twitter other social media sites ... you no longer had to bookmark Daily Wire, you could just follow Daily Wire and its updates would appear in your feed. This was quicker and easier, and you could also engage with your friends on the stories that appeared in your feed. And so publishers began appealing to the aggregated eyeballs on those outlets. Consumers and news outlets saw social media as a platform, in other words, not as a publisher. And that’s how social media billed itself.
Then social media decided to act as a publisher, and to re-establish the old media gatekeeping function ... Now, Facebook announced that it would cultivate news from only approved sources, and downgrade other news — so if you followed Daily Wire, Daily Wire stories might still not appear in your feed ... Suddenly, rising, successful alternatives to mainstream media were downgraded ... traffic has plummeted for a wide variety for conservative sites across the spectrum; the same hasn’t held true for outlets on the Left, and particularly for those considered “mainstream.”
While Shapiro is right to claim that by invoking editorial privilege, social media sites now are publishers and as publishers, liable for defamatory statements publish by them, Shapiro fails when he whines about social media sites becoming editorial gatekeepers.
Independent publishers like Shapiro only have themselves to blame. They are the ones who helped build up social media sites to where the commanding heights those sites hold today.
Almost overnight, Facebook went from a college gathering site, to a site of haus fraus playing Farmville. Within only a few years Facebook became AOL 2.0.
And once that happened, indy publishers gleefully abandoned the idea of the independent Internet to become part of the Facebook universe. Rather than build traffic to their sites, lazy publishers merely began pushing their stories on their own Facebook pages.
Earlier in his work, Shapiro cites Matt Drudge as being the last helper for conservative publishers. Since his beginning, Drudge has been one man on a mission.
Though most fail to see it, Drudge is a blogger who doesn't offer commentary. Instead, he implies his stance by revealing what he reads hour-by-hour. That has been his secret from the beginning. Drudge is on record saying that no one should partake in the platforms of others and thus become beholden to the likes of Facebook and Twitter.
It's hard to feel sorry for Benny and his Daily Wire. Lefties control Google, Facebook and Twitter. This is well-known by politicos and well-known for years. So if indy publishers would like to plug into Leftyland, they must drop to their knees and service their lefty masters.
Once upon a time, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube were nothing. Facebook became something because of Farmville. Twitter became something because of sports / "black Twitter" and YouTube became something because of cat videos, fail videos and ripped mp3 uploads.
It Is Time for Exodus
In light of DataGate that Facebook execs have now become embroiled, why have not Shapiro and other conservative publishers declared their independence from Facebook and Twitter? Benny and other indy publishers could band together and announce an action to push their content exclusively through freedom-oriented, free speech platforms like Gab, Bitchute and Pewtube.
If only all conservative publishers would join together in a great exodus from left-wing social media. They would lead millions of independent-minded and conservative-minded Americans away from propaganda-slavery and into a promised land.
Rather than lament, which is typical for Benny's kind, Benny needs to learn from austere Anglo-Protestants and their history. Benny needs to learn how to man-up, battle and conquer.
And if Benny can not learn from us, the people whose ancestors founded both British Colonial America and the United States of America and who did so upon Anglo-Protestant ethics (see: CHRISTIANS FOUNDED AMERICA, NOT ATHEISTS, NOR JEWS, NOR HINDUS, NOR BUDDHISTS, NOR MUSLIMS.), then Ben should open up his Tanakh and turn to the The Book of Exodus and learn how the Israelites turned from Egyptian slavery and were led by Moses.
