All too often, the well-meaning, but confused conflate the concept that the word religion labels with the concepts that the words doctrine and cult label
Decidedly, there is a Religion of Atheism, a Religion of Progressivism, a Religion of Naturalism Metaphysics, a Religion of Socialism and a slew of other doctrines from which anyone can get religion. There is even a Religion of Ice Hockey.
Atheism means living by the belief that no Supreme Being exists who created the universe and all that exists within it. Decidedly, one lives by atheism through belief.
All groups rely up group dynamics. Groups seek new recruits who become initiates and initiates who become true believers. Members strive to adhere to the ethos — what it means to be the idealized member of the group. And that is how they gain status. Using group forces, members force out the weak, the half-believers.
